Machine Controller Configuration (Serial / Pulse)

Machines can be set to 2 types of mode: Serial and Pulse.

Warning: If a BluKey Pro Serial device is installed on a machine that is configured to Pulse Mode, the machine will automatically configure the machine to Serial Mode. Once the machine is in Serial Mode, the machine will not be able to revert to Pulse Mode. Please contact manufacture for assistance (PayRange will NOT be able to assist).

Serial Mode

Use one of the suggested methods below to access Program Mode. (Review machines Programming Manual to access Program mode. PayRange cannot assist with accessing Programming mode).

Serial mode is J . Ed. This option cannot be set manually. The machine sets itself to serial mode when a “gen 2” (Serial) device is plugged in.

Pulse Mode

Use one of the suggested methods below to access Program Mode. (Review machines Program Manual to access Program mode. PayRange cannot assist with accessing Programming mode):

Configure Machine Controller Programming – PD/PR controls

  1. Open service door or disconnect plug ‘AA1’ from controller to enter Set-Up Mode
  2. Advance through menu until display shows J . menu and choose proper setting:
    • Setting for coin + PayRange (debit) acceptance = J. cd
    • Setting for PayRange (debit) only = J. _d
  3. Select and save setting.
  4. Close service door to exit and return to Ready Mode

Configure Machine Controller Programming – MCG controls

  1. Turn service key to enter Service–Setup mode.
  2. Navigate to Price Menu then General.
  3. Navigate to Coin / Debit and choose proper setting:
    • Setting for coin + PayRange (debit) acceptance = Coin & Card
    • Setting for PayRange (debit) only = Card

Exit menu and remove service key

BluKey Installation Steps

Note: PayRange service requires data connection on a user’s mobile device. Prior to installation, verify location has adequate cellular reception or a WIFI network that users can access.

Step 1: Prepare Machine

  • Disconnect machine from power.
  • Open machine control panel to access controller board (behind display)

Step 2: Connect BluKey Pro to harness.

Connect C3 harness to BluKey Pro (If machine has card reader, connect provided PayRange card reader adapter harness to BluKey Pro)

or

Connect BluKey Pulse to Interface Module and harness.

Connect C3 harness to one end of the Interface Module and BluKey Pulse to the opposite end of the Interface Module.

Step 3: Connect to Debit Interface

Plug the 6-pin connector from C3 harness into machine debit interface. (If there is a card reader, disconnect it from machine debit interface first, connect it to PayRange credit card adapter, and then connect PayRange C3 harness into machine debit interface.)

Step 4: Connect Coin Pass-Through (Optional)

Note: OPTIONAL – Coin pass-through is used to audit coin drop only, connection is not required. Do not connect if machine doesn’t accept coin or cash reporting is not desired.

  • Disconnect machine 4-pin coin sensor harness from “Coin 1” connector.
  • Plug coin pass-through into “Coin 1” connector.
  • Plug machine 4-pin coin sensor harness into pass-through connector.

Warning: ATTENTION – Maytag/Primus MCG Control Models: DO NOT connect coin pass-through. 4-pin connector found in machine is NOT COIN and has HIGH VOLTAGE. Connection will result in damage to machine and PayRange hardware.
Models including, but not limited to: MFR##PDC*, MFR##PDF*, MFS##PDC*, MFS##PDF*

Step 5: Configure Laundry Interface Module (BluKey Pulse Only)

Switches must be set to match install scenario. Incorrect settings may cause BluKey (BK) to behave unexpectedly.

Switch 1:

  • OFF = BK is auditing machine coin acceptor
  • ON = machine does not accept coin, or coin audit not being used

Switch 2:

  • Washers = OFF
Payment disabled while machine in use.
  • Dryers = ON
Payment always allowed for top-off (set OFF if dryer top-off is disabled)

Switch 3: Set ON for all machines.
Switch 4: Unused

2Washer (No payments when machine in use)Dryer (Payment allowed at any time)

Step 6: Affixing machine decals

  • Number Decal – a unique number decal must be affixed to every laundry machine equipped with PayRange. Number decal not used for vending applications.
    • The decal should be placed on the machine in an area that is easily visible (near the coin slot is recommended) and that makes it obvious which machine the number is for.
    • Number machines left-to-right and top-to-bottom to make it easier for customers to locate machines. For stacked machines that require two devices, top machine should be lower number.

Note: Dexter and Maytag stacked machines only require a single device, and therefore should have a single number decal

  • First Purchase Free Decal – this decal should be used only if the ‘New User Program’ is enabled on the operator account.
    • The New User Program allows brand new PayRange users to make a single transaction without adding funds and is a great way to incentivize mobile pay adoption.

To enable/disable feature, and set the maximum amount for transaction: login to Manage Console → select “Rewards” → select “New User Program”

Step 7: Power ON machine and register BluKey with PayRange App in front of machine after installation and testing after installation (Refer to BluKey Registration manual).

It is critical to test each BluKey device to verify proper installation, registration, and setup. Testing coin acceptor is also recommended, if applicable.

Recommended test procedure:

Repeat steps for all machines.

  1. If machine accepts coins, insert a quarter, and verify price on display decrements by 25¢
  2. Insert a card into the reader – verify normal card operation and machine can start.
  3. Rapid advance machine to clear cycle

Select the machine in the PayRange App and swipe to pay – verify machine displays PayRange balance (or value of free purchase code) and can start.
