How to Add Store Gift Card In-App |
Why don't I see the option for Store Gift Cards?
You'll see the option to add store gift cards once you've established a purchase history in PayRange that meets all of these conditions:
- Account age: Your account is more than 30 days old.
- Funding activity: You've added funds at least 2 times.
- Purchase activity: You've made at least 6 transactions.
- Payment methods: You've used 2 or fewer unique cards.
Why didn't I get the full value of my gift card in cash?
Gift card exchange services don't pay 100% of the card's face value. When you exchange a gift card for cash, you're selling it into a secondary market, and buyers pay less than face value because they take on risk (the card could have an incorrect balance, be flagged as fraudulent, or simply be harder to resell) and because reselling the card itself costs money. This is standard across every gift card exchange service, not something specific to PayRange.
How is the cash amount calculated?
The offer is based on how in-demand and easy to resell that particular gift card brand is. Cards for widely-used retailers typically get a higher percentage of face value; less common or niche brands get a lower percentage. The rate isn't something you can adjust — it's calculated automatically before you're shown an offer.
Who sets the exchange rate — PayRange, the retailer, or someone else?
The retailer whose name is on the card (e.g., Target, Amazon) has no involvement in setting the exchange rate. The rate comes from our gift card exchange partner, based on their own market data for that brand. PayRange presents that offer to you; we don't set the percentage ourselves.
Can I negotiate the offer or ask for more?
No. The amount shown is a firm, automated offer — not a starting point for negotiation. You're welcome to decline it and keep the physical or digital gift card instead.
Do I have to accept the offer?
No. You'll see the cash amount before anything is finalized. If you don't want to proceed at that price, you can walk away and keep your original gift card.
Why is the percentage different for different gift cards?
Every brand has its own resale value based on demand. A gift card for a popular, widely-shopped retailer will usually convert at a higher rate than a card for a smaller or less popular brand.
Will I get a better rate if I try again later, or at a different time?
Rates can fluctuate over time based on market demand for that brand, so it's possible the offer could be different on another day. There's no way to guarantee a higher rate, and rates aren't something we can override manually.
Is my gift card balance verified before I get an offer?
Yes. The balance is checked as part of the exchange process. If there's a mismatch between what you expect and what's actually on the card (for example, if it was partially used), the offer will reflect the actual remaining balance, not the original face value.
What if I think the offer is wrong or too low?
The offer reflects the current resale rate for that specific brand plus your card's verified balance — it isn't a manual decision made about your account. If the amount seems off compared to your card's balance, contact support so we can check for a balance or processing error, but note that the underlying discount percentage itself is not adjustable.
Are there gift cards that can't be exchanged?
Yes. Cards with expiration dates, certain restricted or promotional cards, and cards already reported lost or fraudulent typically can't be exchanged.
